March 22, 2026 Lilly's experimental diabetes drug shows promise for weight loss By Alice Park Senior Correspondent GLP-1-based drugs are here to stay, since they're among the most effective medications for treating obesity and diabetes. So it's no surprise that their pharmaceutical makers are working on next-generation versions. Eli Lilly reported that in its latest study of retatrutide, which targets three weight hormones, the drug helped people with diabetes lower their blood sugar by up to 2% and lose 16.8% of their starting body weight, far outperforming the placebo group.
