An under-studied treatment (psychedelics) could help treat an under-studied condition (Long COVID) By Jamie Ducharme Health Correspondent I’ve covered both Long COVID and psychedelic drugs separately, but I never thought I’d write about them together—until I learned about a bill working its way through the Arizona state legislature. The bill would provide millions of dollars to research psilocybin’s potential to treat 13 different conditions, including Long COVID. I was fascinated. Psilocybin, the psychoactive component of magic mushrooms, has shown great promise in treating mental-health conditions. But Long COVID, a potentially debilitating condition that affects nearly every organ system in the body? Maybe so. Research suggests psilocybin and other psychedelics may reduce inflammation throughout the body and stimulate the growth of new brain tissue, which some experts believe could translate to improvements in Long COVID symptoms like brain fog, headaches, and fatigue. The research is in its infancy, so these are just theories for now. But it’s a field of study worth watching. READ MORE   Share This Story
